Cure for the Closet with Multiple Personalities
Do you open your closet doors, only to find clothes with multiple personalities? Do you have clothes that reflect personalities that you no longer identify with? If you have un-wearable clothes that are clogging valuable space in your closet and not reflecting your current lifestyle or personality-it could be that you have a schizophrenic closet! A multiple personality closet is one that has lots of clothes-but nothing to wear!
Hanging in the confusion of your closet is a bright red Bohemian skirt with funky tassels and hot pants, that yes, you really did wear them! You also still have the famous pleated plaid trousers from 1986-no 1981! Wow! Has it really been that long? Do you feel emotionally attached to some of those old clothes? Are you hoarding out-of-date clothes, hoping that they will come back in style? These clothes are relics from your past clothing personalities. Can you put together an outfit with all those unmatchable pieces? You know the answer is a resounding…NO!

Get up-to-date with your wardrobe-or lack of workable wardrobe. I know you want to put it off, and make excuses why the plaid pants from 1981 deserve to be in your closet still. You want to tell me that when you were an upwardly mobile executive those were your favorite pants that you bought in New York’s garment district for near nothing. (Of course they no longer fit) That was then, and this is now! It’s time to let go…let go and get current!

Think about it, the only clothes that you really want hanging in your closet are the ones you actually wear. The clothes that fit you well and make you feel attractive are the only ones that deserve to stay. The special occasion outfits (plus out-of-season clothes) can be put to the back, or stored in another closet.
It’s time to get a working closet started. The first thing you need to do is access your current lifestyle needs. Do you work full-time? Are you a stay at home mom, or recently retired? Your clothes should reflect your lifestyle. What type of clothing do you wear 80% of the time? These should be the majority of what’s in your closet. What other types of clothes do you need?
The foundation of any good wardrobe starts with the wardrobe basics. These basic pieces will be the clothes that can help you create outfit after outfit. No matter the occasion you will be able to have something to wear, because you have your basics in order. Some of the items will be inexpensive, like t-shirts and knit tops. While on the other hand, wardrobe basic pants and skirts could be more an expense or an investment. The cost will be worth it since this is lays the ground work for your style.
The next phase is to add your personal style! Expressing your style sets you apart from everyone else. Look for a really colorful handbag, or a trendy necklace to show your personality. It doesn’t take much, only one or two accessories. Get yourself noticed for your style!
